Hello to all,

Newbie on board! I am a 19 year old from Memphis, TN and a new Cessna owner! I currently hold my PPL and am training for instrument. I will be beginning my sophomore year at Embry Riddle Worldwide in Memphis this coming August. With aircraft rental prices at an all time high in my area, I found that in the long run it would be much more economical to own my own airplane versus renting full time.

I am fortunate to have been "employed" since the age of 14. I've "logged" thousands of hours playing music up and down clubs on Beale Street here in Memphis. This payed off very well as it allowed me to make this incredible purchase!!

So on to the airplane:
She's a 1980 Cessna 172N, reg N1068F. Fresh annual and 55 SMOH! The aircraft has had three owners before me, all of which were A&P mechanics at Fedex, so she has been very well taken care of! I have logged about 7 hours on her since I sealed the deal last week, and have been having a blast! I'll be posting any flying stories and changes made to the aircraft on this thread, so stay tuned!

Panel lit up at night

Yeah, what 14 year old kid spends 5 years saving up to buy an airplane? That's impressive.

Thank you so very much for the warm welcome and very kind words, guys!!

Since the plane will be spending more time outside than it has in the past few years, I decided that the windows should be resealed. Aside from the felt, the windows had a fine bead of silicone around them. Unfortunately it was somewhat aged and dried out.

I used a razor blade to carefully remove all of the old silicone. I have seen on other threads that guys mask off the glass to keep from making a mess of the sealant. Well I took it a step further and masked off the paint as well. I forgot to take pictures of the front, but took pictures of the process for the rear.

After removing all of the old sealant, I wiped down the edges with mineral spirits and carefully applied the masking tape.

Next I applied a small bead of 450F black silicone. I put on some nitrile gloves and used my finger to smooth out the silicone and make it look uniform.

Remove the tape and voila!

I used the same process for the front and side glass as well.

Here one shot of the windshield

The N model is the best Cessna ever built but then I guess you know that already. Stands for "freak-N fantastic"

Those seats in lambs clothing look awesome! I think I may just do that to protect my new leather upholstery.
