How often do you change your air filter?

Do you have a 3rd part air filter such as a Bracket filter?

Once a year at annual, whether it needs it or not.

In the interim it may get attacked by the air compressor. smile

Ditto. Unless the grass/dirt fields take a toll in a shorter period of time.

Bracket filter, change at annual. It takes me more time to order from spruce then it does to replace it.

Don, Where do you find a Bracket filter for $10? I just bought one for $58 from aircraft spruce... it must have gold connectors or something...

Ok,, what's a bracket filter? Mine has 4 screws on the front easy to remove. Is that a "bracket filter" and $10? part number? I thought they had a sticky oil coating?

I have the K&W STC.. It does take more time to clean it and re-oil it at each annual.. But I do believe the old "blue streak" gets to RPM a tad quicker vs foam... Also this reusable filter has paid for itself many time over.

$10.50 for the 6108 element at Spruce:

I think you paid for the entire assembly?

Jim, I dare say most folks have changed from the original Cessna paper filters to the Bracket oiled foam. The original paper filters had an AD issued back in '85 I believe. There are other choices though, Donaldson is another.

Same for me, in fat I think last year I ordered 3 or 4 filters so I would not have to order them for awhile.

One year I did change it before the annual, but it was a really dry year, and I had spent more time than normal on a grass strip. The filter got dirty sooner....

I put my K&N filter on the same year as the Power Flow tuned exhaust. It seems to work fine... i just don't have a good measure of the performance or fuel economy change. I got about 600 hours on the first K&N, then I noticd a few pin holes when I held it up to the light after cleaning... A new filter is cheaper than a new engine, so...

Thanks I checked ASpruce from thread below and that's what I use. That must be where the "oil" comes from when I thought they had an oil coating.

How often should they be changed, mine was changed last annual.

I'm not in front of one right now, but I beleive the instructions are "every twelve months, or more frequently if operated in dusty conditions" By the way, they do have both a 'manufactured date' and an 'expiration date' just like a loaf of bread.

when I had the Power flow exhaust installed, I changed to a Challenger air filter. At annual time, I just clean it and re oil it and put it back on. Cost: $0. (at least at annual time)

My K&N instructions for continued airworthiness say every 100 hours or 12 months (whichever comes first), or sooner if operating in dusty conditions. They also say to replace the filter after 25 cleanings. I'm on my second K&N air filter. The first one made it about 12 cleanings (more or less).

Call me anal, I usually change my filter at the same time as I change the oil. Never thought about it much until I got back from Yellowknife last year and after flying through forest fire smoke for the best part of two weeks...the filter was trashed! Plus, operating from a grass strip, I end up with a lot of crap stuck in it in relatively short order, so the cost of a Brackett element seems like pretty cheap insurance. Making it part of oil changes makes me less likely to forget to do it...elder mind insurance! grin
