Hi, I am Walt from Florida. I just bought a 1963 Cessna 172 and I am teaching my son to fly. I am looking to fix up the plane somewhat, although it is in excellent condition. Does anyone know where I may be able to purchase any new plastic knobs for things like the landing lights, strobe lights, and position lights for the instrument panel? Mine are cracking badly. This seems like the club to join for the Cessna 172.

Hi Walt! Congratulations on your purchase, and welcome to the site.

I don't have a line on the knobs you're looking for, but I'll bet someone else here does.

Hi Walt, Welcome to the forum! Where in FL? I lived in Melbourne for years...you can try contacting the Indian River Flying Club http://fly-irfc.com/index.php they maintain a 152 and a 172. They might be able to give you a lead as to where to go.

Hi, I'm Leo based at the North field, in Oakland California. My bird is a 1959 C172 built in October 1958. It is fairly stock, but I've upgraded to Cleveland wheels and disc brakes, a remote Airwolf oil filter, Brackett Air filter, and a VFR panel with a Garmin GPS com, SL40 comm, PS intercom and a Garmin digital transponder.

I do some of the FAA approved upkeep and have enjoyed several pilot assist annuals. I'm interested in flyouts with other 172's and meeting local pilots.

Hi Leo!

Great to meet you here. I'm located relatively close to you (flying out of RHV in San Jose, CA) and I'm learning how to fly from a flight school that uses C172s (both steam gauges and glass cockpit versions, though I'm sticking to the old school stuff for now).

I haven't landed up at Oakland yet but recently I spent an afternoon practicing landings at Hayward Airport, which was very good practice. Between the very low TPA and the constant Southwest Airlines 737s taking off just to the north of me, it was never dull!

There are some monthly events down here that I'm starting to learn about, plus a weekly Thursday morning coffee get-together in Mountain View. I'll post more details as I hear about them. My flight school (Tradewinds Aviation) holds a number of social and training events.

Hi everyone,

I have been ASEL rated about 30 years and joined a small flying club based out of Benton Harbor, MI KBEH, member for same number of years.

One '77 C172 is current basis for our club. The club has been in existence for over 60 years and had a number of different aircraft. At one one that I'm aware of, we had 3 aircraft and about 25-30 members. Our membership has fluctuated through the rough times of course. Presently we are at 8 members.

Welcome Francisco! I just flew over Tucson not long ago (C150) en route from Phoenix to San Antonio. Used to date a girl in Tucson a number of years ago so got to visit a number of times. Love that area!

Hope you like the club/forum and will visit and post often and good luck pursuing your C182/Cherokee!

Hi Alex! Glad to have you here! We could certainly use the experience of another A&P here. I have a vague feeling we've met before. smile

I'm Andrew, from Bartlett, IL, just outside Chicago. I have my Commercial MEL and Instrument. I haven't actually flown in over 5 years, but I'm hoping I'll be able to get back into it this year. I'll try for my CFI rating(s) by end of summer hopefully.

Hello, Everyone. I just joined this board and I see a lot of fellow CAP members here. I'm also a Senior member out of the Hobby Squadron here in Houston. We have a C172 and I just certified as a Misson Scanner last week-end, working my way up to MP.

I received my Commercial, MEL and Instrument in 1992 but have not flown much since 1995. Did all my training after Private License in a Grumman Cougar (twin)out of Hobby with Fletcher Aviation. I'm looking forward to getting back to form and current on all the new reg's that have changed.

Sounds like you're a busy guy Eaglewing! Thanks for taking the time to come join us here at the Cessna 172 Club. Maybe you can spread the word about us with the CAP community - we'd love to have them here on the forum too. Best of luck with your flying and hope to see you in these parts often. Please keep us posted!

Greetings from Mike Turoff, Capt, CAP, TX-451/CC. I have a C-ASEL&MEL - IFR certificate with about 1700 hours total time. Most of my flying is either cross country or dropping skydivers from a C182 and DHC-6, but as commander of the Hobby Senior Squadron, I currently concentrate on crew training in a C172 and C182 aircraft and eventually I will get G-1000 (glass cockpit) certified.

Great to have you on board Max! Probably a bit warmer in Florida right now than in Manchester I'd bet. Jump right in and start posting - we'd love to hear what's going on with you on the other side of the Atlantic. Be sure to tell your UK friends about us here and we look forward to seeing you around often.

Hi Max! I spent some time in Manchester on a software project, and stayed right next to Old Trafford stadium (at the lovely Copthore Hotel). That hotel housed the visiting teams who were playing Manchester United, and more than once I was awoken during the night to the sounds of marauding Arsenal players as they careened through the hallways. Ah, memories!
