Does anyone currently employ a larger nose wheel on their 172?

Larger than the 5" stock tire.

I've heard of it, cant remember who or where,(they say the mind is the first to go, who the hell are THEY anyway?) thought maybe somebody out here has done one or has one. Always thought it wouldn't be a bad idea given some of the un-improved field landings some of us do...??

Maybe it's not possible, but, seems as though I've heard of it?

http://airglas.com/nose_fork/index.html has one STC'd.

We used to do them all the time just using a C206 nose fork and a field approval.

I have the Landis nose fork STC on my 172M. 8.50s on the mains and a 7.00 on the nose.

Outstanding Gentleman ! Thank you for your input. I would luv to have this improvement on my 172P and will forever be looking for the goods to get it done someday.

That would about add an inch and a half to the prop to ground clearance as far as I can see, right ?

My 172G had the HD nose gear--6" wheel and tire and larger nose wheel fork. Amazingly, when I got skis for it I found the nose ski is made for the standard nose fork so I had to buy a new fork and axle.

It would seem as though the "further the better" in that application, but, as you found out, evidently not... Ya still got the 'ol 6" wheel fork and set up and do you use it for summer op's?

I only flew the plane one winter on wheels, that was 75-76. Summer time it is always on floats and winter time on skis. That way I can always park it right in front of the house as we live beside a lake. I still have the 6" fork and the prop for wheel operation. I use the float prop for ski flying so it stays on all year round.

This sounds like a nice operation, something I would luv to do, but, still park in the local County hangar. Hey, BP, would you be interested in selling the fork and nose wheel? Just out of curiosity...

Sorry, I intend to keep all the wheel equipment so that if and when I have to sell the plane, I will have all the float, wheel and ski gear.
