Welcome to the Club stellar! Hope you find an affordable way to keep that bird in the air. Maybe we can smuggle over some cheap parts and gas?

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum.

I'm just starting to learn how to fly. I'm starting ground school in a couple days, and after that I can begin my flying. My goal is to become a commercial airline pilot, or something similiar to that.

Welcome to the Club Jason. If a career in aviation is your goal, odds are you'll start off in a 172, and no better place to learn about that aircraft and meet others who are flying and learning than this very site. Best of luck and glad to have you.

Hello to all, and no I'm not rated in anything and while that maybe, I wanted to express my urge to explore and learn about the 1950's model 172's.
A good friend and I are wanting to split the cost of the plane to help us get our PPL's. that would equate to around 14000 we could use to help buy the unit we want. We both love to fly already through a good friend that owns fixed and rotor birds.
I want to start out as cheap as possibly safe to do so. and really have no disire to move up but a great desise to make the old girl a better plane along the way.
any help or suggestions would help, aai know nothing right now so most of what you write me may go over my head...LOL

Hi BWdiver, welcome to the forum!

You don't say what part of the USA you're living in, but there are club members scattered throughout the states, plus there are some instructors (CFIs) as well. Depending on where you live, you can get some good recommendations for CFIs who can teach you how to fly. If you're anywhere near the San Francisco Bay Area, for example, I can hook you up with a great CFI who happens to have some availability in his schedule (one of his students is going for his FAA checkride this week).

Ask lots of questions, check out the posts that we have, and chime in with your experiences. The questions you ask will be helpful to all.

Welcome to the club!

California Flyer hello, I live in Riverview, FL just 20 miles SE of Tampa.
As for instruction, I plan to use Shermans flight training located in the Wimauma Air field, This is a grass runway and also where the future 172 will be parked. Mr. Sherman has been flying longer than I have been alive (I think)and comes highly recommended.

Welcome BWdiver. We have history in the Tampa area, but many years ago. I was stationed at MacDill from '66-'69, and the wife and I both got our PPLs at Peter O Knight and then belonged to a CAP unit that operated out of Brandon. We have friends who live in Sun Center, but can't remember ever visiting Wimauma, though we've probably flown over it many times on our way to Sarasota or Ft Myers (we were down there just last April with our 172). Florida is a great place to learn to fly! Our favorite instructor sounds like your Mr. Sherman, though Mr. Bridges has no doubt gone west by now. He was one of the best.

Good luck with your training, and keep us informed of your progress.

John

Someone has just knighted me, unbeknownst to my now noble personage, and it wasn't the Queen of England so I must be a new member.

So Hi folks.

Eh? I get the "go check out the off-topic area for the answer" part but "kind Sir"? I'm not a Sir I'm a Ma'am. There's already a surplus (sir-plus?) of sir's, I don't want to add to the pot.

Greetings, folks. My name is Chris and I've recently come into a '75 172M. It's about ~8000TT with ~2600SMOH. I came here to do a little research while I try to decide what to do with it. It needs P&I, panel, and powerplant. I start out thinking about a panel mount 496 and some new interior plastics and end up planning for an Air Plains 0-360, Baumann Amphibs, and a red base and flames paint job. You know, the same stuff we all do when it comes to airplanes.

My stable is currently empty, which makes it a tempting project, but the family is too big for a 172. However, I can't complain about having something inexpensive to fly. Glad to be here.

Chris

Hello all, My names Tony born and raised in NYC. Retired in 2002 and decided to get my PPL. Went out to Mazzei Flying school in Fresno, rented an apartment and got my license.Learned in a Tomahawk and transitioned to 172. Flew a bit back in NY then moved out west in 2005. Haven't flown since I moved but recently got the bug to fly again. Have my appointment for my class 3 and will meet with a CFI sometime next week. The FBO suggested I go for the High performance c172 210 HP due to our alt of 6200ft. Its only 5 bucks more an hour. I am excited to get back into it. Learning alot from reading posts.

Welcome Tony! You're a lucky man to live in Idaho, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Glad you made the transition to 172's. Good luck with the medical and looking forward to seeing you around!
