I've seen them on e-bay from time to time. wentworth or one of the other salvage yards might have one too.

I have made several of them in the past, matter of fact my plane currently has a "me" made gust lock, throttle lock and mixture lock!

Why not go to hardware store buy steel rod correct diameter, use MAP torch and bend new one? Cost about $5.00

If you bend your own please be sure and attach a plate at the end of the lock to cover the master switch and ignition. There have been several instances where the gust lock was forgotten and left in place with not so pleasant results. The plate covering the starting equipment makes this a little harder to do.

Also make sure or update your checklist so it contains verbiage regarding removal of all (as applicable) control, throttle, mixture, propellor locks, etc.

Good point. The red flag is right on. I probably would just bend a 2" circle to cover the switches. Safe effect but not the red eye catcher. I have however made cowl plugs from an old foam ice chest that weight practically nothing. I cut out the foam to fit the opening and used 1/8 ply to epoxy it to. Then covered with .4 oz fiberglas and resin, trim with rubber. Wife made the red flag and I used brass ring soldered in place to hold the red flag for no rust.

Works well. Cost was a little time, glue and red spray paint.
