Looking for a battery for a C-172 N. Seems to be a big deal. Suppliers are asking for a Part # ?? anybody know how I'd come up with that? And can I get a gel battery to replace the lead acid that's in it? AND do we like Concorde or Gil mo bettah??? Any coaching will be much appreciated. I'm hand propping...

14 or 28V? We have the Concorde RG-25XC, installed in 2006 after our "new" Gill G-25S failed in less than six months. Good luck with yours Vettdvr.

Finally got my serial part # - really helps when you're ordering stuf... nobody likes to ship you a part without it... worried about litigation I think. Thanks.

It is 14 V and we have had pretty good luck with the Gill. Might be the weather and location. Doesn't get much below freezing here.

As soon as my Gill craps out (or appears to be getting close) I'm going with Concorde.

I agree with the Concorde guys!! RG-25XC. The XC is for 'xtra cranking'. Have been replacing Gills every 2 years for the past 6 years in my '59. They just refuse to hold a charge. A 182 driver friend of mine had the same problems with Gill but his Concorde has been going strong for 5 years.
I bought one off the shelf at a local parts place for 208. Spruce has them for 194. Wag Aero was 199. Sometimes you can get free shipping. I needed mine in a hurry so I used the local shop. In fact, my local shop is really trying to be competetive and will try their best to match pricing so I do all my buying there now.
These batteries do not have the Hazmat charge as they are a sealed battery. Another bonus is they arrive fully charged...no acid to add, no initial charge required. Out of the shipping box and into your battery box!

I plan on going with a Concorde when my Gill craps out, which is about 2 years old now so sometime fairly soon!

Go to Concord and Gill websites. There you can find what fits and is approved for your bird. Concord does not yet have approval for installation on all planes that originally came with Gill batteries so be careful ! For example, you cannot put the latest concord sealed lead acid in the Bonanza as some one in Texas holds the STC on it. It's a $500 battery through say Aviall, and you still have to buy the STC. Buy the battery and the STC from the guy in Texas for less.

Just scored a new Concorde Concorde RG-25XC for the 2/3 scale 172 last night. The Gil is still turning her over just fine but when CarlN tested her she was reading low, so want to take some preventative action before the heat of battery-killing summer takes hold. Should be here Wednesday. More fun stuff to do next weekend. laugh

how much did the STC for the concorde cost? Looks like my aircraft will require one.

Short answer:Concorde ONLY way to go...call them (visit on net) with your make, model,year, and get the battery with the most cranking amps;
Battery box may need to be adjusted/cut slightly.

No extra cost on the STC for my Concorde -- just a AI signoff and 337 sent in (also Weight and Balance change 2lbs I think)

thanks for all the replies. I went with the gill. got to looking... the other battery had been in there for years, and was just tired. SUPER service from the guys at Aircraft Spruce. They did alot of research, called me back to check on specs, etc. REALLY helpful. And had the best price. I don't mind paying high prices for good stuf that comes with good service. The concorde bats were like 25% more bucks.

Hope you didn't get a sealed Gill. They really do not last. Good luck with your purchase.

I always figured on about two years life for the Gill-25 in my M model... However, the one before last lasted 5 damn years ?? must have been a factory defect ?? I've never really owned a battery
of any kind, but I've rented a butt load of em !!!

We're well into year six on our Concorde RG-25XC with no signs of weakness. We're believers!
