Doesn’t exactly answer your question, but this might help.

My experience is that the Horton kit does very little to improve the M model and newer airfoil. Cessna knew how great the Horton kit was so they changed their airfoil to mimic it very closely with the M model. Yes, you tend to lose a little speed on the older models. We had one on our K model. I absolutely loved it. Horton cuff, fences, and tips along with the 40* flaps make it a great short field plane. I bet you wouldn’t lose much speed, but you won’t gain much performance either. I own 2 N models now and have no plans to install it on either one.

If you have an M or newer, I would consider the Sportsman kit.

I really like the handling of my former 172E and current 182H with the Horton kit. I find it makes for a very stable platform at slow speeds. I don't land in short fields, but I like how the plane handles going slow, and the slow stall speed.

In my 182, I can go to idle, pull the yoke all the way back, and the plane will just sort of mush down at maybe 500 fpm. This is slower than a Cirrus with a parachute deployed comes down, and I can stil decide where I want the plane to head to.

I don't have before and after comparisons because both planes already had the kits installed when I got them. It would be a big plus in the selection of any other mid 60's Cessna I would get.

I have a Horton on my 172B. It was on it when I purchased it. With wheel pants I cruise at 115mph. Like Henry said... back to idle, trimmed all the way, with the yoke in my chest, I just mush/sink at about 500fpm.

My 172M does the same without a STOL kit. Flaps 40, full trim, full aft stick. Just settles wings level.

My 172E was able to reach book speeds with the Horton kit on. What model 172 are you looking at installing this on? It makes a difference.
