We just installed two G5ís and a GFC500 in our 172M. The electric trim switch and AP disconnect switch mount that was installed is not as nice as I thought it would be. Does anyone know of optional yokes that could be installed? I was even wondering if 182 yokes might better accommodate the new trim switch and AP disconnect.

Look at these: http://www.avion.com/CessnaControWheels/CessnaControlWheels.html . Ain't cheap, but STC to keep your papers clean and quality is good.

My avionics shop who installed my GFC500 installed a custom modified Stec plate on my yoke to fit my hand. First he took me over to see another plane with similar setup to see if I would like it. I was ok with it. I have flown with it for close to 600 hours now and really like it. It did not cost any extra.

Got any pictures of your setup? Is it like mine?

Thanks for your help on this. Nice yokes but also a bit pricey.

I swapped out the original yokes in my 172N for two current 172SP yokes, which have the trim switches, mic button and AP disconnect. Pretty nice but $$$$$$

Those rubber slip on yoke grips are nice. I had them in my last 172. I don't think you can buy them anymore. I tried Spruce and other suppliers but could only find leather ones.

Wow I think your'e right. Website said temporarily closed?

Yes they make those small yokes bearable. I was used to the larger SP model yokes that I learned to fly in. My hands would cramp up on those stock small yokes after I started flying this plane even before I owned it. The rubber slip over effectively made the yokes larger. The push to talk button is a bonus.

This is the company I had used in the past, not sure if they are working at the moment.

Did the same...local field had a bunch of parts off wrecked airplanes...deal was that if I ever went to sell, he'd get first crack at buying the plane, otherwise I'd owe him for the two yokes. Sometimes horse trading (not everything has to cost an arm and a leg) at your local field can be a surprise.

Of course, he was in the middle of doing my dual G5/GFC500/IFR cert/annual at the time...;)
