Just joined the club. I have not started lessons yet, but have been squirreling away money whenever possible. I hope to start later this summer (as long as my house holds together and my wife gives the green light). The local school uses a pair of 172s for instructions. I have a lot of experience as a "co-pilot" in my dad's supercub, but have only been up in a 172 once. I have heard they are sturdy and forgiving birds. I was hoping someone could verify that and tell me a little bit about what to expect. Thanks!-D Phair

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum stuff so forgive me if i'm not posting the intro in the right place.

I'm fresh out of flight school and can't wait to get a job flying. As of now I don;t own a plane yet, but I have looked into partnerships. (even though some of them look kinda sketchy) Hopefully someday I will come up with the cash and be the sole owner of my first plane. I cant let these very expensive certificates go to waste. I worked my way up to my commercial multi and then set out to find work. But with only a little over 200 hours, it puts me in a tough pickle with employers. So I guess for the time being I will just try and keep flying when I can and build that time up till I can start living my dream.

Hello All,
I earned my ticket 30 years ago last month, in a Cessna 172 (19 years old-how was I so brave?). After taking my high school crush for a ride I put away my log book! Now after 2 years with a 160 mile daily commute as the dog walks I am signing up for flying lessons, to start next week. I am 15 min away from airports, home and work so I look forward to seeing my family for dinner during the week.
Renting looks a bit iffy-I may squeeze $$ out of my affluent yet cheap parents (depression babies)-anyone know about 172 of the early 60's? I want mechanical flaps like my dad's 182.
Sincerely,
Kelly (JOHN) cassutt, phd

Welcome Kelly! Good for you to circle around to flying again. In the Classifieds section you'll find a few 172s currently for sale, plus the usual trade-a-plane and barnstormers websites should be a good place to start your search. Let us know how your re(training) is progressing. You'll find all sorts of interesting posts here regarding the challenges people go through when learning to fly- check out the "New To Flying" section for all sorts of stories!

Progress to date:
Found my flight log-in a box right next to the old mouse nest. Seems I have 130 hours logged.

Passed my flight physical-toughest part was paying 125.00 to have my eyes checked! Then he suggested getting an IFR rating or Westchester NY airport may give me grief.

The Doc suggested a couple lessons before taking off again-I think I am legal to fly by myself again-but not that foolish!

FAA gave me a free license without my SSN-otherwise it would have been 2.00.

kcassutt, it sounds like you aren't current, so your plan of taking a few lessons, followed by a BFR (Biennial Flight Review) to get you current, should be the way to go. Ease yourself back into it and you'll be great in no time!

Welcome kcassutt! I want to make sure I have this straight... you haven't flown in 30 years? Have you taken any re-training/refresher instruction yet and if so, how is that going?
