A different feeling, like another country even though it's only a 30min hop. The people are great, and their accents are unique. U-tube has landing videos.

KTGI, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Hj9-O25peI, it's a 30 minute hop from the mainland VA, or MD. We brought home a Calico kitten from there, named her Tangie.

Looks like a nice destination, wonder if there is any overnight accomodations or onsite camping...

There are couple of B&B's. There is a dip or bump in the runway, not dangerous, but it did get my attention. No cars, just bikes and carts, everything is within walking distance.

When I was there a couple of years ago, it looked like the runway needed to be mowed. I believe that it has been repaved since then. It is a different place to go. Getting there by ferry boat from either Virginia or Maryland is a fun ride. Going over to Tangier by ferry boat, I rode up in the pilot cabin. I was interested in his GPS. A course line was on the screen and the boat stayed right on it. The screen showed the water depths, too. Pretty neat!

Although I lived close to Tangier Island for a number years (have lived in MD and DE), I never went to check it out. Sounds like a fun place. I've seen/read stories about it and think 60 minutes even did a story on it some years ago?

Do a few Angel Flights out of there. Runway has been re-paved. Bump is gone! If your staying over and want a cocktail or wine, bring your own. Island is dry. Not much to do after you eat and walk around for an hour. But interesting place. No cars on the island but one or two pickups.

My parents (now just my Dad) have lived just south of Bowie, MD since 1979. I probably ought to be kicked in the butt for not making it there yet. Next time I'm up this spring I think I might have to correct that. Rumor has it you can even find a crab or two to eat there if you look hard enough. smile

Here's another good approach/landing video I found for Tangier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HvanUxj62g

And here's a fantastic video on the unique accent spoken on Tangier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIZgw09CG9E

a few? There are 3 places to go on Tangier that I would recommend. But I only know them by sight, not names. for interesting reading, read the several articles on the Doctor that founded the clinic there. He just died and the articles are in AOPA.

Here in Ft McMurray we have about 60,000 from Newfoundland (in a city of 80,000)
With such a large population from the east coast the dialect remains
I was born in Alberta,but here I'm a minority
I have learned to understand the language a bit

Spent a weekend there a few years ago, stayed at the Bay View Inn. There was a large storm off the Atlantic coast at the time and at high tide the road from the Inn to the airport was under about a foot and a half of water. We had to walk through water just to leave our room was was elevated. The airport sets a little higher so that was not an issue.

update from me. We flew there 7/11, and had an enjoyable several hours. The runway looks in excellent shape now. The food was good, and the people friendly. From there we continued on across the bay to Melfa, then back to W45 by way of Norfolk, then thru Richmond.
