I have a nose heavy C-175 that has the AVCOM Lycoming O-360 STC with the constant speed prop. It is nose heavy and requires a lot of trim to fly straight and level. I have heard of adding weight in the tail (up against the bulkhead) as a solution...any experience out there?

Please..no comments about adding weight in the baggage compartment, I don't want to lose what payload I have... just want to trim the plane to fly straight and level..

Welcome from New York. Where in Illinois are you located? I instructed part time at Clow in Bowling Brook for a lot of years. Have you reached out to the STC holder for any advise? No matter where you add the weight, it will contribute to the empty weight so you will lose some useful load, but with the longer moment arm, you won't need as much with it way back there. Has a mechanic checked your rigging or rechecked your center of gravity? Have you check the actual position of your trim tab, against what your trim indicator is showing?

I think I would exhaust all options before making a change back there. I know in my Beech Sierra, when the 3 bladed prop was added, I needed to add 12 pounds against the back bulkhead of the luggage compartment, but that was as per the STC.

Bob

Big, conformal lead ( Pb) tie down ring?

I think the battery on a 175 is already behind baggage comp?

Maybe also reach out to Stoots who holds STCs for various 0-360 conversions for the 175.

Yes, battery is already in the back...thinking of putting in a larger/longer battery...anyone have any ideas on battery boxes and batteries that I could use?
