Flying from Manassas VA to Key West FL to Panama City FL then north (no destination picked yet). Any suggestions for overnight stop in north east FL? Best way to navigate through Miami area? Lots of complicated space enroute to KEYW! Also thinking Louisville KY for a destination prior to turning toward home. Departing Monday 10/18. Thoughts suggestions

I would say Deland for a stop NE Florida. Navigate through the Tampa-Orlando airspace, skirt the heavy airspace by going west toward Homestead and on down. Flight following 118.6 should get you through the Tampa-Orlando airspace and the MOA's....Avon Park...

Heading toward Louisville, you have the Appalachian Mountains which top out at 6600+ feet and you need at least 1,000 feet above to cross safely. Your worst enemy in a 172 going over the Appalachian Mountains is wind and weather. There can be some violent winds at the mountain tops and mountain tops in the clouds. A careful planned trip is your best friend.

Just to add.....you need to plan your altitude over the Appalachian Mountains well in advance. Don't want to wait until you get there to climb....

Leaving Florida, aim for Chattanooga (avoid having to overfly the N Georgia mountains. From KLOU, I'd head for Elkins and cross the mountains there. Not very high - and, of course, you get to stop at W99 (Grant County) for cheap gas.

After 61 years of flying, there is not many places that I long to get to, but I will have to give it some thought as I age and slow down my flying.
